Unit 7 - Earth's Interior Processes

Unit Overview

For this unit I will be making an effort to get students to use more hands-on materials. After reading Building Thinking Classrooms by Peter Liljedahl, I'm trying to incorporate more random grouping, thinking tasks, and vertical whiteboarding into this unit.

In general, each unit will begin with a vertical whiteboard task which will include explaining infographics or graphs, or will be making observations on a earth science demo.

This particular unit will not include any formal labs or lab reports, more just "See-Think-Wonder" style observations of phenomena.

There will be 3 total summatives for this unit: 2 tests and 1 model.

In my general physical science course students maintain a notebook but no binder, where in my advanced course they maintain a binder. In both cases I will have students work on a form of a progressive model where they will explain phenomena in visual and written form. The one-pager below is more for my own organization but posting it in place of an anchor chart.
